To collaborate on future ATM concepts and airspace design to enable VFR efficiency and exploit developments in the wider ATM environment to offer much improved and efficient operations for all airspace users. UK airspace design, largely unchanged for over 40 years, hinders these objectives. Air traffic integration, rather than segregation, is just one example of the possibilities within reach of Airspace Modernisation stakeholders. The introduction of Part ATS presents an opportunity to improve the efficiency of the UK FIR.
Audit of the CTR/CTA airspace
Airspace4All has carried out an audit of the extant CTR/CTA airspace in the UK, along with all associated SID/STAR routing. Using a baseline of the commercial air traffic containment principles (ICAO) employed elsewhere in Europe, Airspace4All will produce a detailed statistical report on how the volumes of terminal airspace in the UK could be designed more efficiently.
However, mindful of the ongoing development of the CAA’s Airspace Modernisation Strategy and the potential future needs of Part-ATS, Airspace4All will aim to balance the results of this audit against other commercial airspace design initiatives (including FASI-N and FASI-S) to help inform the many Airspace Change Proposals currently in the pipeline.
